Mobile Vision Clinic

Bringing Sight to the Children of Tampa Bay

The Mobile Vision Clinic is the centerpiece of the Glazer Vision Foundation’s commitment to providing critical eye care services and resources to children that need it the most. Through regular visits the Mobile Vision Clinic brings doctors, nurses and eye care specialists, along with an on-site prescription lens lab and a full selection of eyeglass frames, to communities throughout Tampa Bay. To date, the program has provided more than 100,000 free eye screenings and 20,000 free prescription eyeglasses to children.

Awareness

Early detection of impaired vision is critical to ensuring a child’s development is not compromised. However, 50% of parents don’t take their children for eye exams prior to the start of the school year. By travelling throughout Tampa Bay, the Mobile Vision Clinic educates caregivers, educators and children that eye screenings and exams are critical to proper vision care, as vision impairment is often difficult
to self detect.

Access

80% of all vision impairment can be prevented or cured, however 1 in 5 children cannot afford eye care. The Mobile Vision Clinic removes this financial barrier by providing free medical resources through cutting-edge technology, providing children with prescription glasses within 3 hours. The doctors and eyecare professionals onboard this medical resource travel where they are needed most, at no cost to every child.

Impact

In children under 12 years old, 80% of learning occurs through visual cues. Common vision problems such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism (irregular cornea curvature), strabismus (misaligned eyes) and amblyopia (lazy eye) can all be addressed through corrective lenses. Studies show the impact of clear vision improves a child’s overall ability to learn, elevates reading fluency, psycho-social well-being and academic success.
